The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey
Debt is all around us. More than
70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Over 35% of Christian
marriages end in divorce, and money problems are the number one cause.
The current financial crisis has
everyone worried. Many families and
individuals are assessing their own financial health at a time like
this,
and St. Peter Lutheran Church wants to be a resource for people
who want to learn more about their personal
finances and take action.
Therefore, we will be having a
discussion of Dave Ramsey’s The Total Money Makeover at St. Peter
Lutheran
Church on Sunday, November 16th at 7 PM.
Dave Ramsey is a best-selling Christian author and host of his
own
television and radio program, The Dave Ramsey Show. Instead of
promising the normal dose of quick
fixes, Ramsey offers a bold,
no-nonsense approach to money matters, providing not only the how-to but
also a
grounded and uplifting hope for getting out of debt and achieving
total financial health.
The Total Money Makeover
is all about “renewing your mind,” using God’s ways of handling money
(over 800
Scriptures deal with money) to be “transformed.” It’s a plan
to stop being “conformed” to the ways of the world,
which encourages
nothing but overspending and massive amounts of debt. "Don't even
consider keeping up
with the Joneses," Ramsey declares in his typically
candid style. "They're broke!"
The Total Money
Makeover
works because it is simple, and
because it gets to the heart of the money problems: you.
This book discussion is for
anyone and everyone – whether you’re a personal finance whiz, you’re
just curious,
or you know that your financial life is in need of a
makeover. You are also welcome to purchase the book even
if you don’t
plan to attend the discussion – or pass this information along to a
friend who might be interested.
The Total Money Makeover is
available at the public library, any major bookstore (also as an audio
book), or
through the church for a discounted rate of $10. Books
ordered through the church will be available beginning
October 12th.
To order through the church, email or call the church to place your
order. There is also a sign-up
sheet in the back of the church. You
will pay your $10 to the church office when you pick up your book. Books
should be ordered by Sunday, October 5th, but may be
available after that date, upon request.
