Reflections from Council
President:
At the Synod Assembly on early Friday, I was moved as we voted on a
resolution called the Book of Faith Initiative. (The Book of Faith
Initiative invites the whole church to be more familiar with Scripture,
through group study and personal devotion. For more information on the

I heard someone say, “Why are we voting on something that should be the norm of all Christians?” But the truth is we all have become lazy at times and don’t pick up the Bible and study it as we should. I myself have a Bible next to me on a nightstand near my bed, but most of the time I have another book on top of my Bible and read that instead. Rarely do I find my Bible on top of those other books. I believe the Book of Faith Initiative will be a powerful call to all of our people to get us into regular Bible study.
Then on Saturday at the Cross
Training event, preacher Tony Campolo spoke the truth of Jesus Christ to
all of us,
and humbled us in our seats. As a church, are we really helping the
poor and feeding the hungry? Or are we more concerned about ourselves?
We all can do better. Sacrificial love is the key for all of us. I
pray for all of us to grow closer to our Lord and Savior through the
study of his word to strengthen our faith, to truly love our neighbors
the way Jesus asked us to do.
